Charlene + James | Palm Springs Engagement Session

james-charlene-palm-springs-engagement-photos-brooke-taelor-photo-13.jpg

The drive from Phoenix to Palm Springs isn't much to most people. In fact, most people probably dread that drive. It's nothing but desert, after all. But those miles of desert have done more for my heart than any other stretch of road.

The first time, I was moving from Texas to California — quite possibly the most life-changing thing I've ever done. The second, I was headed home after spontaneously driving to surprise one of my grandmothers and two of my sisters in Scottsdale. I missed home. They were what I needed. The third, from Scottsdale, again, but this time I wasn't headed home. I was simply headed to an engagement shoot. A whirlwind of emotions hit me on that drive. If I'm honest, I was feeling incredibly anxious.

But if there's one thing that will take me out of my head, it's jumping into the true empath that I am and focusing my energy on others.

So, enough about me...

Let's talk about Charlene and James.

These two are something special. I knew we were of-the-same-kind from the moment I chatted with Charlene on FaceTime. She'd just got done working out, but knew I wouldn't give a damn. In case you were wondering...she was right. I'm usually five days in to unwashed hair and wearing the same Harley Davidson t-shirt that has a few perfect holes worn into it. Anyways, Charlene rocks. She's edgy, cool, a freaking babe, and a truly awesome human at the same time.

When we were chatting about their engagement session, I suggested the idea that we Turo a vintage Mercedes convertible for their shoot — and they. were. so. down. Music to my ears!

Fast forward to hanging in the desert of Palm Springs a few months later, and I'm swooning over this couple all over again. James told me a story about time the two spent in Bali after their engagement. Apparently their driver commented something about how he didn't believe they were engaged because of their physical touch with each other. Well, y'all. Try to make it to even the second photo of this post without saying, "HOLY SMOKES THESE TWO ARE HOT." To me, the simplicity of being comfortable in each other's presence communicates more about two people than anything else. You see that in these photos.

You see James' love for Charlene when he comfortably rests his head on her shoulder. You see Charlene's silly side when she pulls her jumper (a.k.a. sweater — Charlene is Australian, and I got a kick out of the word "jumper") over their faces.

These two are raw and sexy and, most importantly, in love.

Diana + Aaron | Trinity River Audubon Center Wedding | Dallas Wedding Photographer

DallasWeddingPhotographer_Wedding_BrookeTaelor-506_websize.jpg

"What kind of tacos do you like?" This is the text I got from Diana on the morning of her wedding day. I think I may have teared up at her thoughtfulness. And definitely jumped on the chance to eat Velvet Taco (a Dallas favorite) when arriving at the hotel she was getting ready at.

Diana + Aaron's day went about a seamlessly as possible. It was filled with loving friends, family, their adorable pup Elvis and lots of happy tears. My favorite part, by far, was their first look. Out of the two photographers and videographers watching, I don't think there was a dry eye. These two's love for each other is the real freakin' deal. And I'm forever grateful to have been a part of it.

Barton Springs Family Session | Austin Family Photographer

AustinFamilyPhotographer_BrookeTaelor-81.jpg

I have a special place in my heart for this little family. When I first met Ali (we had followed each other on Instagram and decided to meet for coffee at Radio Coffee in Austin), she told me that she had endometriosis and her chances for having a baby were slim. BUT she was pregnant. I had chills and, actually, may have also started to tear up — that would be a very "me" thing to do.

A few weeks later, I was shooting Ali + Trevor's pregnancy announcement photos. Then, before we all knew it, I was in their nursery taking photos of them again...but this time with baby Ivy. I captured their first Christmas, Ivy walking down the isle in one of their best friend's wedding, and now these sweet 2-year-old photos for Ivy. She's currently obsessed with peaches, so we had to add them in the shoot.

I'm looking forward to many more family sessions to come with these three.

Bailey + Jordan | A Rainy Day Couple's Session in Brooklyn, New York

Teagues_BrookeTaelor-10_websize.jpg

Traveling alone is one of my very favorite things. Every time I've set out to explore somewhere solo, it's been an eye opening experience. I love feeling small in a big place. I love going places where no one knows my name.

When my parents told me they were visiting New York City this summer, I knew I had to join them. I also knew I wanted to add a few personal days and photograph rad humans. Bailey and Jordan happened to be those rad humans I was hoping for. They are also photographers — naturally, we've been Instagram friends for awhile now — so when they found out I was coming to town, they were down to shoot. Stoked.

So I booked an Airbnb in Brooklyn and met them the day I got to town. Note: After 15 hours of travel from LA and about two hours of sleep.

It was dreary, rainy and humid. I was exhausted. But that didn't stop us.

I love this session because it's the realest real. Bailey and Jordan work out at that basketball court, they walk in the rain, they live in the neighborhood. If there's one thing you should know about me: it's that the "everyday life stuff" gets my heart beating. These photos are proof you can shoot in the rain. Proof you can wear clothes you didn't go out and buy for the purpose of having your picture taken — and look f'ing awesome. That you don't need your hair and make-up done, the perfect lighting, any of the bullshit (sorry, y'all, New York is getting to me, but I always promise to be unfiltered here) you may have been told you have to do for a photoshoot.

Now that I'm rambling, I'll let you enjoy this set of images. You'll notice some film-y edits in there. I am working on a new offering for those edits. Basically, it will allow us to work collaboratively together to determine an editing style that best represent your story — if you're interested in this concept or the film look, drop me a line! I'd love to hang.

Manuela + Philip | Tulum Wedding at NEST Tulum Beach Hotel

Manuela_Philip_Wedding_BrookeTaelor-363_websize.jpg

Oh, Tulum. It had been a little over a year since I shot Celbi + Gabe's wedding in this magical place. I was both excited and nervous to go back. Excited to meet Manuela + Philip and document their day, but nervous because I've felt a lot of pressure since that first Tulum wedding. After it won Junebug Wedding's 2018 Best Wedding, things kind of blew up. All the vendors knew my name — and I got asked about Tulum all. the. time. Even though I'm definitely no Tulum expert. And still hardly able to accept that a wedding I shot was even up for such an award in the first place. But as soon as I met these two, I was in the zone. I realized that there was no pressure to re-do what had already been done there. We were creating new magic.I was inspired by Manuela's beauty and fire. This poem was something I jotted down while editing her "getting ready" photos:there's something gloriousabout a womanwho is bothelegance and fireat the same damn time. And Philip balanced her out just perfectly. See for yourself...[narrative]

Dre + Jason | Los Angeles Engagement Session

Dre_Jason_BrookeTaelor-54_websize.jpg

I like the skybefore a storm. It's crazy romantic:the cloudsjust waiting to burstand fill the earthwith goodness.--It was 65 degrees in Los Angeles this Wednesday. I remember it vividly because I was upset that it was 80 back home in Texas — I'm not one for the cold (yes, 65 degrees Fahrenheit is cold to me). But as I was driving up the windy road to the Lower Canyonback Trail, I started to forget about how cold I thought it was.Since moving to LA, I have these moments every now and then where it hits me: I live here. That moment, driving up the road, was one of them. Then I got to meet Dre + Jason.Jason greeted me with a hug (or maybe I greeted him with the hug? ...I'm a hugger), and we started to chat about social media influencers, Mexico and other small talk that I enjoyed more than most small talk. Then Dre showed up — someone else tell me I'm not the only one who thinks she looks like Kourtney Kardashian — and I immediately liked her too. Any girl who takes a tequila shot before their engagement session is my kinda girl.We hiked around as storm clouds rolled in. I barely noticed it getting colder, though. These two are so much fun! When it came time to edit their session, I threw in a few film-like edits. It felt right to me. And I knew they would be down for them.Cheers!B[narrative]

DJ + Maci | Downtown Dallas Wedding at Howell + Dragon

Ward_Wedding_BrookeTaelor-350_websize.jpg

If you've creeped on me enough, you know I cherish every one of my couples. They are my friends. And I love every one of them. DJ + Maci are no exception — except, in a way they are. Not every couple texts you on their honeymoon and says they miss you. They did. Not every couple asks if they can send you a save the date and invitation to their wedding because you're "not a normal photographer" or asks where you'd like to sit when you eat dinner. They did. Not every bride tells you they'll fire you if you don't put your camera down and dance with them at their wedding (lol). Maci did.I could go on...So it's safe to say that these two hold a special place in my heart. And I fully intend on us being friends forever. In fact, as I'm writing this, I already have plans to see them in a few days.As much as I'd like to go on about how much I love Maci + DJ, I'm sure you'd like to see their wedding day, so have at it...--P.S. Marissa + Lou | Prospect House Wedding in Austin, TX

Lourissa_Wedding_BrookeTaelor-1635_websize.jpg

What do you love most about each other?Marissa: "I am a very fast paced person.... I overcommit myself, overbook myself and take on too much all of the time. Lou slows me down and balances me out in the most beautiful way. When we are together, I am reminded to slow down and enjoy the small things, to be present around people and to take in every moment of life for what it's worth. He is also equally as childlike and playful as I am and I love that! I feel the most understood and known by him."Lou: "Marissa has a way of lighting up any room she walks into. She makes you and everyone around feel like the most important person there. There's something about magnetic about her personality and people love being around her. She makes it easy. She celebrates people and victories well. I just like having her around."--I couldn't think of a better way to start my post about Marissa + Lou's love. When I first met these two, I knew they were COOL. Way cooler than me. I was excited to capture them because of their vibe (and because we had planned the most rad engagement session ever...post coming soon).  But after getting to know them and their story, I fell in love with their hearts. And for their sweet love for each other. Fun fact: They call each other love-y and I think that's the most adorable thing in the world.Their wedding day was filled with friendship, laugher and—most importantly—Jesus. Being their photographer, I got to be present during the most intimate parts of the day. This included the prayers. Every single time, no matter who was praying, they prayed that those who might not know the Lord to be able to see His amazing love through their marriage and love for each other. If there's one thing I've always said about finding my person one day — it's that. And so I cried every time.As you look through these photos of their day, I hope you can see the love that Jesus gave us shining through. And I also hope you get all the way down to the reception photos to see what A FREAKING PARTY their night was.xoB[narrative]

Modern Allan House Wedding in Austin, TX

AllanHouse_AustinWeddingPhotographer_BrookeTaelor-217_websize.jpg

I'm (finally) blogging this wedding in the heat of July in Texas, but this day was nothing short of the perfect winter day — in my opinion, at least. The trees were orange, red and yellow and the weather was perfect for an outdoor event.

I remember discussing the day with Jess almost a year before. We chatted about the different venues she was visiting and how she just loved The Allan House. After being a part of there day, in that venue, I can tell why. Just take a glance at the photos below. Her dress, the modern, black + white theme mixed with the vintage vibes of the historic Austin home; it all just works.

Sarah + Kody | River House on the Pedernales Wedding in Austin, TX | Austin Wedding Photographer

Sarah_Kody_Wedding_BrookeTaelor-143_websize.jpg

Tears just started to well up in my eyes as I put my fingers to the keyboard and begin writing this blog post. Sarah + Kody's day was one that left a huge, beautiful print on my heart. Some might assume it was because of the perfect fall weather or the Texas Hill Country that I adore, but really, it's just these two. Their love is something out of a fairytale. Which is incredibly fitting given their love for Disney and the fact that they met playing Quidditch at The University of Texas.

Their day was filled with touches of Disney — from the songs played at their ceremony to the string lights hanging above the dance floor. The entire crew was perfectly outfitted for the day (just scroll, and you'll see what I'm talking about!). My very favorite moment was singing How Great Thou Art during the ceremony. There was something about that moment that truly got me. I sang along. And I cried.

I remember leaving this wedding in awe of Sarah. She's a freakin' boss. And a big sister. And has this presence about her that makes you go, "I want to be like her." Kody is her perfect pair. Absolutely hilarious, supportive and on overall awesome human to be around. I love them dearly.

DJ + Macy | Downtown Dallas Engagement Session

DJ + Maci |This SMOKING HOT couple has quickly formed a special little place in my heart. From the moment I met DJ and Maci at Mudsmith (a rad little coffee shop + bar in Lower Greenville), I just knew we'd be friends. I've had so much fun chatting with Maci about all the little details she's planning for their day — which I am so stoked for.We decide to do their session in some places around Dallas that would feel like a normal part of their lives. So first we stopped at Bar Steller for drinks, then headed over to downtown for the best skyline views and ended our session in the Design District, which is where their wedding will be next May!xoxo

Kaki + Josh

I feel like I start every blog post by saying how much I love the couple. Well, I love Kaki + Josh, too. They are some of the sweetest, most fun humans I've met! And they are SO IN LOVE. Like really—if you need an example of love led by God, it's these two.On their wedding day they had the exact same vibe—they just couldn't wait to see each other. Not even a crazy Texas cold front in April (it was literally f r e e z i n g) could stop Kaki and Josh from enjoying their day to the very fullest. Some of my favorite moments were Kaki's first look with her dad, Josh's face when she walked down the isle and lots of dancing INSIDE!P.S. I had never heard Who Built the Moon by Shinyribs before their day, but now it's one of my favorite songs.xoxo

Austin In-Home Lifestyle Session

I've known Krista since college; we were in the same sorority and always shared a love for creative things + we were both in mass communication program. She's one of the most kind, full-of-life people I know & oh my goodness so is Jon! I could not think of a better match for her spunky personality—they're like two peas in a pod.

When I asked if they would drive from Houston to Austin to model for a mentor session I was doing, they didn't even think twice. So thankful to know these two!

My sweet, sweet Chelsea + Matt. I really love these two. Chelsea and I first met for coffee at one of my favorite little spots in Austin, Quacks Bakery — if you're ever in the area, I highly recommend this little Hyde Park gem. Nashville Engagement Session - Greenhouse Bar

Airey + Jack

I feel like I need to start this blog post by saying, "hot damn!" Because that is what I think every time I look at this stunna of a couple.

Airey was introduced to me through one of my sweet brides, Celbi. I was traveling to Nashville for one of my best friend's bachelorette weekends (totally recommend Nash as a bachelorette destination, btw) and wanted to shoot a cute couple while I was in town. Turns out these two had recently gotten engaged and before I knew it we were planning a the most perfect little engagement session! Airey picked out The Greenhouse Bar — it could not have been a more perfect vibe for these two.

We drank, we laughed, we captured some rad moments. Check out these lovelies below.
